Form Books: In Print and Online: Introduction

This is a guide to form books in print and online in the BLS Library collection.

Introduction

Legal forms are templates that attorneys use in drafting documents specific to the needs of their clients or are forms required to be used by a court or governmental agency.  Forms are found online in various databases, whether on the Internet or in subscription databases and in print in collections of form books; they are also sometimes found incorporated into treatises or included into sets of various state codes.

Many sets of forms, whether in print or online, are annotated with references to cases or statutes that deal with the law the form is addressing and may also include checklists of the steps the attorney could use to complete the form.

You may search for forms in a library online catalog by using the keywords "forms," along with a subject, such as contracts, or with a jurisdiction, such as New York.
