Created for students in the Topics in White Collar Crime course.

$ Bloomberg Law > type: white collar in home screen search box > click link: White Collar & Criminal Law News.  If a BLS law student or faculty member does not have a Bloomberg Law account, click here & register with your BLS email.  (You do not need an activation code, but you do need to wait for a reply email from Bloomberg Law before you can activate your new account.)

Examples: 

  • Ben Penn, Executives Face Perils When Confessing to DOJ as Companies Gain (Apr. 20, 2023) + Chris Strohm, DOJ Dangles 75% Off on Fines to Companies That Admit Crimes (Jan. 17, 2023) 
  1. Click: View & Filter All Stories (on right side of White Collar & Criminal Law News screen) & run either a Google-style search or a Boolean ("terms & connectors") search.
  2. Filter search results by topic, court, company, federal statute and/or federal agency.
  3. Tip: On right side of a Bloomberg Law legal news article, click links under: Related Articles and Topics (example of a topic: Ponzi schemes) to find additional articles.
  4. Tip: Bloomberg Law home screen link: Getting Started (@ bottom of screen) includes Search & Browse > Search & Browse Basics.

$ Bloomberg Law: ALM Media News (including legal news from Corporate Counsel, New York Law Journal & The National Law Journal)Recommendation: 

  1. Type: ALM Media News in $ Bloomberg Law's home screen search box.
  2. Run searches (searches must contain at least two words). 

$ Law360 section: White Collar highlights recent legal news & analysis (accessible on campus, in a BLS residence, or in other off-campus locations if a current BLS student, faculty member or administrator has implemented the BLS proxy server instructions for 1 web browser). 

  1. In $ Law360's main screen search box, run a search like: pyramid ponzi
  2. Try limiting search results to Section: White Collar.
  3. If interested in a particular company, try limiting search results by Companies, for example: Telex Free LLC.
  4. Note: Articles in Law360 Pulse (including Law360 Pulse New York) & Law360 Tax Authority are available in Lexis+.
