Researching Trademark & Unfair Competition Law

American Bar Association (ABA) "basic" law student membership is free. 

• A law student can join five free ABA groups.  ABA groups include: Section of Intellectual Property Law
• FYI: As of 9/13/25, the ABA website described the Young Lawyers Division as available for free (as an auto-enrolled group) to those "admitted to practice within past 5 years or [those who are] "36 years old or less." 

Brooklyn Law School's student organizations (open to all BLS students) include: 

• Brooklyn Entertainment and Sports Law Society
• Brooklyn Intellectual Property Law Association 
• Fashion Law Society

The New York City Bar Association has a $25 membership for current JD students (as of 9/13/25, the membership fee is $50 for LLM students).  Student members can apply to join committees, including the Copyright & Literary Property Committee. Most events are free to members or reduced price (or sometimes sponsored by BLS, which may mean you can attend for free!).
