International Maritime Piracy: Current Awareness

The importance of checking in with current news sources on piracy cannot be stressed enough.  One who is keeping abreast of current news in piracy will know that for the first time in over a century, the United States government recently conducted a piracy trial (previously, 1820)!

UN News Center

• Search "piracy" or maritime piracy; very up to date and specific to UN legal news and efforts to combat piracy.
• Has press releases and press briefings.

Jurist

• Although this is a great newsworthy legal website, for some reason, searching for "piracy" or "pirates" does not generate articles on piracy which are already published on the website! 
• Example: this article is dated from Wednesday, November 24th.  It is already on the Jurist website, but cannot be found by searching for it by keyword.
• When the site does work, it is very good because it links out to other articles and UN resources/articles. See above for example.

Mondaq

• Very good website with articles by law firms and experts on the topic.
• Search "piracy"
• Generates commentary from legal field.

Justia Blogs

• Search maritime piracy, generates links to Jurist articles and blogs that have commentary from lawyers and professors in the legal field, as well as links to SSRN law articles.
