New York Family Law Research Guide

This research guide highlights resources to research and practice in the field of New York family law.  This first tab of the guide lists textbooks adopted for BLS family law courses. The other tabs list key legal news sources, legal treatises, law journals, relevant government agencies and NGOs, case law databases, and relevant New York statutory code titles.

Westlaw and Lexis have family law practice centers that consolidate their platform's primary and secondary resources in one place.  These practice centers are a good place to research a family law issue.

Tip for BLS students:

American Bar Association (ABA) law student membership is free. 

• A law student can join five free ABA groups.  ABA groups include: the Family Law Section, which holds/records monthly brown bag teleconferences for Section members, publishes articles on current issues here and in an eNewsletter, and conducts events.
