Dukeminier Awards: Jeffrey S. Haber Prize for Student Scholarship (annual) [recognizes the best law review note written by a student in the field of sexual orientation and gender identity law] + Learn more and enter 

  • Sponsor: Dukeminier Awards Journal
  • Topic: "The Dukeminier Awards annually recognize the best law review note written by a student in the field of sexual orientation and gender identity law."
  • Criteria in 2024 Student Writing Competition were: "Entries should not be previously published or scheduled for publication.  In addition, students who submit notes promise exclusive submission to the Dukeminier Student Writing Competition until February 1, 2025.  This means that the submission should not be in consideration at other journals before this date."
  • Format in 2024 Student Writing Competition was: "Entries must follow standard law review note format, including the use of Bluebook (21st edition) citation form. All entries must be submitted in English. Each entry should be no longer than 40 single-sided pages with one-inch margins and 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced. The page limit includes footnotes. Entries containing endnotes or including appendices or supplemental material will not be considered."
  • Eligibility requirements in 2024 Student Writing Competition included: "The competition is open to all students, regardless of degree track or progress, enrolled in a law school located within the United States or its territories during the 2024–2025 academic year.  Students of all backgrounds and identities are encouraged to apply."
  • Prize in 2024 Student Writing Competition was: "The first-place winner will receive the Jeffrey S. Haber Prize for Student Scholarship and an award of $1,000 and will be published within Volume 24 of the Dukeminier Awards Journal of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law."
  • Deadline for submission in 2024 Student Writing Competition was: December 20, 2024.  "Entrants must submit their entry by email.  All entries must be received on or before 11:59 p.m. Pacific on Friday, December 20, 2024.  Entrants should not include their name or the name of their school on the competition note itself. Instead, entrants should submit a separate cover page with their name, school, address, email address and phone number. Entries should be in Microsoft Word format and sent to daj@lawnet.ucla.edu with the subject line “Writing Competition Submission.” 

Michael Greenberg Writing Competition - May 19, 2025: Received email response that the 2025 Competition recently concluded.  Requested notification re. future 2026 Competition.

  • Sponsors: Tulane Journal of Law and Sexuality: A Review of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the Law in conjunction with the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association
  • Topic in 2024 Competition was: "This exciting competition is dedicated to encouraging and recognizing outstanding law student scholarship on the legal issues affecting LGBTQ+ persons." Michael Greenberg Writing Competition Guidelines (June 8, 2022) state: "All submissions must fit within the masthead of our Journal. In other words, each article submitted must be a scholarly review of a legal issue related to sexual orientation, gender identity, or the LGBTQ+ community generally."
  • Format in 2024 Competition was: "Article"  Review the Michael Greenberg Writing Competition Guidelines for formatting rules, guidelines and expectations.
  • Prize in 2024 Competition was: "The winning article is considered for publication each year in the Tulane Journal of Law & Sexuality: A Review of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the Law,"  "First-place winners will also receive a $500 cash prize."
  • Deadline: Received May 19, 2025 email response that the 2025 Competition recently concluded.

2025 Mirza Law Scholarship Program (inaugural) - ["[I]nformative essay of 1,000 to 1,500 words on a topic related to employment law (federal and/or New York) or personal injury law (New York)"]

  • Sponsor: Mirza Law (305 Broadway, Suite 701, New York, NY)
  • Topic and format requirements in 2025 Mirza Law Scholarship Program included: "Applicant must submit an informative essay of 1,000 to 1,500 words on a topic related to employment law (federal and/or New York) or personal injury law (New York), including but not limited to: workplace discrimination (such as race, national origin, gender, or disability discrimination), sexual harassment, wage and hour laws, medical malpractice litigation, complex vehicular accidents, or construction accidents." "Applicant must submit a resume and copies of their undergraduate and law school transcripts.  Applicant must agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions."
  • Eligibility requirements in 2025 Mirza Law Scholarship Program included: "Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.  Applicant must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an ABA-accredited law school."
  • 2025 Mirza Law Scholarship Award was: "$1,000 award"  "The winner may be given the opportunity to complete an internship at Mirza Law.  More information regarding the internship, if any, will be provided to the winner after the winner is announced."
  • Deadline to apply was extended to: April 30, 2025.
