Researching Copyright Law: Introduction

A guide to copyright law resources available through Brooklyn Law School.

Note

In summer 2023, attorney and BLS Library volunteer Grace Pickering substantially revised this research guide.  Librarians originally developed this guide to assist students in Brooklyn Law School's Copyright Law course.  This guide focuses on free sources & additional sources available through BLS Library.  In guide boxes under "Casebooks" & "Treatises," books appear in alphabetical order.  We continue to add new resources.  When you access this guide in future, please reload this web page.

In summer 2024, BLS librarians significantly enhanced the research guide: Art, Cultural Heritage & Law.  This guide links to the U.S. Copyright Office's free overviews on copyright for visual and graphic artists, musicians, and photographers.  It also links to guides and toolkits such as: Art and Artificial Intelligence (2024) by Göran Hermerén.  This guide also highlights BLS Library's new institutional subscription to materials from the Center for Art Law in DUMBO.
