UNESCO states its Office of International Standards and Legal Affairs (Legal Affairs) "contributes to the rule of law by interpreting UNESCO’s legal framework and providing legal service in the day-to-day work of the Secretariat worldwide." UNESCO provides key legal texts pertinent to UNESCO's activities. UNESCO's UNESDOC Digital Library links to "latest additions to the database." Additions include countries' depository letters (concerning deposit of an instrument of accession to, or ratification of, a specific UNESCO convention).
Current Agreements and Import Restrictions (provided by Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State), lists/links to many current U.S. bilateral agreements that allow imposition of import restrictions on certain categories of archaeological and ethnological material originating in specific countries. Convention on Cultural Property Implementation Act (19 U.S.C.A. §§ 2601-2613), implements U.S. obligations under the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export, and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. What Is Coming? UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies - MONDIACULT 2025 will occur Sept. 29-Oct. 1, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. Production of Conference Proceedings will occur in Dec. 2025.
