Initial Tips

Tip: Remote access to many articles in BLS subscription databases requires implementation of the BLS proxy server instructions. Based on patron feedback, BLS librarians recommend the proxy instructions for Firefox.

After implementing the BLS proxy instructions, close/reopen the browser. If you successfully implement the BLS proxy instructions, a prompt will appear requesting your BLS username/password.

Tip: Faculty can create customized alerts in HeinOnline's Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP). Click: Create New SmartCILP User to receive weekly CILP email alerts about recently published articles on desired topics. Remote access requires implementation of the BLS proxy server instructions.

CILP indexes material in 650+ [primarily U.S.] legal publications by subject headings.

bepress Legal Repository
- Includes legal working papers and unpublished/recently published legal articles.
- Tip: Use "Advanced Search" to find articles by subject, keywords in abstract, author or title.
Law Commons (Digital Commons Network)
- Digital Commons Network is an open access repository of scholarly articles and other research. BrooklynWorks (Brooklyn Law School's scholarly repository) is part of this network.
- Tip: From the main page of Law Commons (on left), view articles grouped by sub-disciplines, including:
SSRN
- Scope: Worldwide. Includes legal working papers, forthcoming/recently published legal articles, and even some forthcoming book chapters. Search default = search of title, abstract and keywords.

Subscription Sources of Scholarly Legal Articles

A to Z Databases: OUP Legal Journals & Yearbooks (Oxford Academic)
- This page of the BLS A-Z Databases list links to digital versions of many legal journals and three legal yearbooks published by Oxford University Press (OUP). Most of these subscription sources also provide "Advance articles." (BLS faculty might need to click: More Content > Advance Articles.)
- Remote access to these OUP journals and yearbooks requires implementation of the BLS proxy server instructions for 1 web browser. BLS librarians recommend implementing the proxy instructions for Firefox browser.
Law Journal Library (HeinOnline)
- Contains published legal articles from 3,000+ law and law-related periodicals (PDF). Remote access requires implementation of the BLS proxy server instructions for 1 web browser.
