Faculty Guide: Request a Source

A guide to BLS Library's services, contacts & key resources.

BLS Library's Document Delivery Services

All BLS faculty can request material by emailing: askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu.

Full-time faculty also can email their librarian liaisons regarding document delivery requests.

A faculty member can request BLS Lbrary's print sources through SARA catalog tab: FACULTY BOOK REQUEST.

  • Faculty will receive BLS Library's print sources through interoffice mail.
  • If a faculty member has an immediate need for a source, please email askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu or ask your librarian liaison for help.

A faculty member can view BLS Lbrary's recent acquisitions through SARA catalog tab: NEW BOOK LIST.

  • Each month, faculty also receive an email highlighting BLS Library's new acquisitions.

Faculty administrative assistants are trained to retrieve cases from Westlaw (which provides PDF copies of many cases) and Lexis.  Librarian liaisons can provide 1) training in case retrieval to faculty and their research assistants and 2) assistance locating cases unavailable through Westlaw, Lexis or Bloomberg Law.

Whenever possible, BLS Library delivers material in digital form, unless directed otherwise.  Whenever possible, BLS Library emails PDFs of requested articles.

BLS Library does not 1) make multiple copies of articles or cases or 2) perform other services that might violate copyright laws.  See section: Copyright Issues in either the BLS Faculty Handbook or Adjunct Faculty Handbook for information on course packs, copyright compliance and obtaining clearance from the CCC for course materials.  These Handbooks are available through this BLSConnect page for faculty

  • Tip: RightFind Academic is an online coverage verification tool that is part of the CCC Annual Copyright License for Higher Education.  To use, enter a publication's title or standard number (ISSN/ISBN).  CCC provides instructions on how to use RightFind Academic.

BLS Library's Interlibrary Loan Request Form (= tab: ILL in SARA Catalog)

A faculty member can make an interlibrary loan request through SARA catalog tab: ILL.

  • Enter your BLS username (firstname.lastname) and password.
  • Click: Create Request
  • Complete a request form (choose: Article, Book or Other).
  • After placing an interlibrary loan request, please monitor both your BLS Outlook "In" box and "Clutter" folder for future email updates about the request.  Feel free to contact askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu to check the status of a request.
  • Copies of articles and book chapters often arrive within 1-3 business days of placing a request.  (Material arrives more quickly if a lender can fill an interlibrary loan request electronically.)  Books can take longer to receive from a lender.
  • If a faculty member has an immediate need for a source, please email askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu or ask your librarian liaison for help.
