Tools to identify articles, books, treaties, UN documents, jurisprudence and other sources to support an international law paper.

BLS Library's SARA Catalog

sara.brooklaw.edu

BLS Library's online catalog is named SARA in honor of Professor Sara Robbins who was Library Director from 1984 to 2006.

Tip: Remote access to many ebooks and ejournals retrieved through SARA searches requires implementation of the BLS proxy server instructions for 1 web browser.  Based on patron feedback, BLS librarians recommend the proxy instructions for Firefox.

  • After implementing the BLS proxy instructions, close/reopen the browser.  If you successfully implement the BLS proxy instructions, a prompt will appear requesting your BLS username/password.
  • Need initial help implementing the BLS proxy instructions?  Email: library.lab@brooklaw.edu
  • Need help finding articles? Email: askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu

How Do I Leverage BLS Library's SARA Catalog?

SEARCH SARA CATALOG by keyword(s) or use the pull-down menu to search by title, author, subject or call number.

Tip: Use SARA CATALOG to find a book or report owned by BLS Library.

SEARCH SARA CATALOG + MANY DATABASES CONTAINING FULL-TEXT ARTICLES through tab: ONESEARCH.

Tip: Search results will include ebooks provided by EBSCO and EBC and articles in subscription databases such as HeinOnline, Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier and ProQuest.  Remote access to these sources requires implementation/use of the BLS proxy server instructions for 1 web browser.  (See implementation instructions in box on left.)  Feel free to contact askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu for help using the Advanced Search feature.

VIEW BLS LIBRARY'S EJOURNAL HOLDINGS through tab: FIND A SOURCE.

Tip: Enter: title of a journal (example: International Journal of Refugee Law).  Click: suggested title or click: Search to view database links to the journal and dates of coverage for the journal.  Remote access to many of the database links requires implementation/use of the BLS proxy server instructions for 1 web browser.  (See implementation instructions in box on left.)

VIEW HOLDINGS OF THOUSANDS OF RESEARCH LIBRARIES through tab: WORLDCAT.

If BLS Library does not have a desired source, you can:

PLACE AN INTERLIBRARY LOAN REQUEST through tab: ILL.  There is no charge for an ILL.  But students who wish to order sources for journal source-checks should coordinate with a journal editor before using ILL to ensure that BLS LIbrary only orders 1 copy of a desired source.  Some lenders charge our library up to $20/loan.

  • Enter your BLS username (firstname.lastname) and password.
  • Click: Create Request
  • Complete a request form (choose: Article, Book or Other).
  • After placing an interlibrary loan request, please monitor both your BLS Outlook "In" box and "Clutter" folder for future email updates about the request.  Feel free to contact askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu to check the status of a request.
  • Copies of articles and book chapters often arrive within 1-3 business days of placing a request.  (Material arrives more quickly if a lender can fill an interlibrary loan request electronically.)  Books can take longer to receive from a lender.
  • If you have an immediate need for a source, please email askthelibrary@brooklaw.edu or, if applicable, ask your journal's librarian liaison for help.
