Food & Drink Policies

Food and beverages can damage Library collections and equipment with spills and messes.  Food and beverages also attract pests and create odors and sounds that may disturb others. 

  • Permitted:  Dry, nonperishable snacks are permitted in the Library.  
  • Prohibited: The following kinds of foods are not allowed in the Library:
    • Meals, hot food, food with strong odors
    • Messy food [anything that can drip grease, sauce, fillings, condiments, etc.]
    • Any food eaten with utensils

Please respect this rule and your fellow classmates who may have sensitivities or allergies by adhering to the following guidelines designed to preserve the materials, equipment, furnishings and environment at the library.  

Individuals disregarding the Library food and drink policy will be reminded of the policy and asked to relocate. BLS Public Safety officers will be contacted if this is a problem.

Meals and more substantial snacks should be enjoyed in the designated areas – the student lounge on the first floor, the cafeteria on the fourth floor, or in the courtyard. These areas are designed for dining and provide a comfortable space for you to relax and refuel.
