BLS Library Technology

Provides information and instructions for hardware, software, and platforms managed and supported by the library.

What is Procertas?

Procertas is an online platform that provides office technology training for lawyers. Procertas focuses on key tasks in Microsoft Office programs to prepare users for the technology requirements of law practice.

What does Procertas cover?

Procertas offers self-paced modules for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF. A complete list of skills covered in each module can be found here.

Each module includes a trainer and an assessment for each program. The trainers provide videos and feedback to help users learn each task. The assessments are timed and graded to gauge knowledge: users will receive a score of Beginner, Intermediate, Qualified, or Expert.

Who can use Procertas?

All students have access to the Procertas Legal Technology Training course through Canvas.

How do I access Procertas?

Simply log into Canvas and click the Procertas Legal Technology Training course. Once you begin a module, your Procertas account will be automatically created. Please note that these training modules do not work in the Canvas desktop and mobile app. To ensure that your Procertas account is created properly, you must open Canvas in a browser at https://brooklaw.instructure.com.

Downloading Microsoft Office

To complete a Procertas module, users must download and open files in various Microsoft Office programs. These files can be downloaded and edited on both Mac and PC operating systems.

All BLS students have free access to Microsoft Office. Instructions for downloading Office products can be found on BLSConnect.

Note: BLS does not provide licenses to a PDF editor. Students who wish to complete the PDF module may do so with personal access to a PDF editor, or by using a library lab computer.

Certification

Users who earn a Qualified or Expert rating for the assessment portions of a module will earn a COBOT (Certified Operator of Basic Office Technology) Certificate. These professionally-recognized certificates can be included in a resume or added to a LinkedIn profile.

Earned certificates will be sent via email. For more information, please reach out to the Technology & Reference Librarian.
